An investment that is larger financially might not be what is in your best interest. It might be in the best interest of the value of the house. They certainly both have merits and if you have a very large home then the justification might be to have both options as you can use the central vacuum for the bulk of the work and use a backpack vacuum in-between or even to use it in places that are out of reach.
